Our Story

"The Patriot is born of the land but it is for the spirit."
- Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The Patriot was to be bold and test a player's skill and resolve. True to the natural contours of the land, golfers experience 7,158 yards of Oklahoma's lowland marshes, mature woodlands, upland parries and dramatic limestone canyons.

In the Beginning

The land that would become the Clubhouse of The Patriot sits at the crest of a prominent bluff in Rogers County, Oklahoma, at an elevation of 716 feet above sea level. These scenic lands had been assembled over many decades, becoming known as Greenhill Farm, and eventually acquired by the Oxley family in 1972. In 2001, representatives of the Oxley Family began discussions with David Charney, Pete Kourtis and Greg Simmons of the Owasso Land Trust regarding their vision for the land. These discussions resulted in the commitment to develop and/or preserve more than 2,700 acres of the historic Greenhill Farm. The land was named Stone Canyon and became Oklahoma's largest planned unit development.

Founding History

The Patriot Golf Club is the product of a chance meeting between Major Dan Rooney, founder of The Folds of Honor Foundation, and David Charney, Co-Developer of the Stone Canyon Development. Both men were late substitutes in a charity golf tournament and happened to be paired together. Both men dreamed large and loved golf. In 2009, The Oxley family's Greenhill Properties, LLC, together with Owasso Land Trust, donated land to Patriot Golf Course, LLC. Soon thereafter, Dan Rooney began calling potential members, giving tours - either by off-roading or by helicopter - on a patch of ground that would later become The Patriot. At the time, the brave Founding Members belonged more to a dream than a golf club.

Unveiling The Patriot

The design of the course was entrusted to Robert Trent Jones, Jr. His team included Jay Blasi and Bruce Charlton. With over 100 years of combined design experience, they believed preserving the natural beauty of the land contributes to the pleasure of the golfing experience. By 2008, Jones Jr. had designed more than 245 courses on four continents. Under the direction of Bill Kubly, Landscapes Unlimited would be given the task of uncovering The Patriot's 19 holes. The Patriot's first superintendent, Jeremy Dobson, was also instrumental in the construction effort. Jeremy and his team worked tirelessly to help give birth to The Patriot. The talented group was responsible for the construction of the course and bringing Robert Trent Jones, Jr.'s vision to life. The Patriot was to be bold and test a player's skill and resolve. True to the natural contours of the land, golfers experience 7,158 yards of Oklahoma's lowland marshes, mature woodlands, upland prairies and dramatic limestone canyons.

Spreading Our Wings

The Patriot officially opened for business on May 19, 2010 and experienced modest growth in the years that followed. Soon, the membership began to outgrow the original clubhouse and The Patriot started dreaming bigger. With vision and resources, Managing Equity Partner Paul Sisemore willed The Patriot forward to undergo construction on a new world-class clubhouse. Our Equity Partners include David Bond, Sanjay Meshri, Dan Rooney, John Rooney, Tom Russell, Paul Sisemore, Eddy Gibbs, and Owasso Land Trust. In the Spring of 2016, a multi-phase expansion plan including a new Clubhouse, Pool, and Golf House, was presented to The Patriot Membership.

The Patriot Future

The Patriot aspires to provide a private retreat for local and national members who are passionate about the game, appreciate its history and traditions, and are drawn to the Club's unique setting and deep sense of Patriotism. The Patriot's focus is to create a family-oriented environment with social activities, unique member events and world-class golf. The Patriot combines lodging, pool, dining and other amenities to further enhance its distinctive environment.

Central to our mission is our desire to be a refuge from daily life, a place of tranquility that promotes reflection on that which is most important. This is best exemplified at 1300 hours, when activity stops at The Patriot to honor those who sacrifice on our behalf.
